Who are the students receiving Farther Foundation grants?

Farther Foundation supports students from some of the most under-resourced and isolated communities in and around Chicago. Many come from one parent households. Most will be the first in their family to attend college. Yet, they distinguish themselves through academic achievement and participation in extracurricular support programs targeted toward college enrollment and career success. What they often lack is the knowledge about enrichment opportunities and the resources to take advantage of them – knowledge and resources that give focus and direction to ambition and are commonly available in wealthier communities.

Only 10% of Farther Foundation students live in Tier 4 neighborhoods. It should be noted that every neighborhood can contain families with a range of education, income, wealth and privilege.
